captioned by closed captioning services, inc. breaking news in burlingame guests of the airport embassy suites hotel are evacuated police and firefighter there is after discovery of a dangerous gas. >> terry mcsweeney is live at the scene. what is going on right now? >> reporter: we are told that hundreds of people have been evacuated there the -- from the embassy suites airport hotel as a result of a carbon monoxide leak that got into the hotel sometime last night. guests are being allowed to be in the lobby. as of this moment no one is being allowed to go back into their rooms. look at video, the fire chief says the hotel called this for an air quality check around 12:30 this morning. when the fire crews got out here, high levels of carbon monoxide were detected,

everyone was told to get out of their rooms. the hotel was at or near capacity, hundreds of people. the problem has been identified as a faulty boiller. the problem was getting everyone out. >> we were sleep -- [ inaudible ] there was an emergency [ inaudible ] >> reporter: talking to county fire just a few minutes ago. some people if they have flights are being allowed to go back into their rooms, pack tear stuff and leave. as far as going back into their rooms that process has not begun yet. hundreds out of the hotel. many allowed to stay in the

cleaning until the 16th of this month until 6:00 this morning detour in place there as well. this morning a man is in custody after a pipe bomb was found in his car in san jose. the bomb squad detonated the device after the man was pulled over no one was evacuated a nearby holiday inn did warn guests to stay indoors. traffic was shutdown for a few hours. the man suspected of killing a retired school teacher in hercules is scheduled to be arraigned in richmond this morning. darnell keith washington faces robbery, burglary and carjacking. police say he and his wife murdered 55-year-old susie ko at her home last month and stole her car. this afternoon, one of the

men accused of vandalizing a muni bus last week is scheduled for arraignment. yesterday san francisco police arrested another suspect thanks in part to social media. ama daetz has the details. >> reporter: they smashed, trashed and torched this muni bus during the giants celebration october 29th. police arrested a second suspect, 19-year-old nicholas hudson of daly city. >> this person was seen smashing out the window and vandalizing the muni bus on the 29th. >> reporter: the public helped track hudson down. >> if it wasn't through the use of social media and help of the public, we probably wouldn't have captured this person. >> reporter: social media also helped police arrest 22-year-old gregory graniss of san francisco. he was caught after this picture went viral. police are releasing more pictures from that night. look at this man dressed in

dark clothing and baseball cap he uses a skateboard to break the buses' side windows. the chronicle caught a photo of this man using a barricade to smash the bus' windshield. police still haven't found these two arsonists we showed you last week. you can see them setting fire to the bus. >> they are all felony crimes, arson, damaging the bus, they are all very serious crimes. as you heard from our district attorney and our city attorney, they are going to prosecute to the fullest. >> reporter: the city attorney also promised those convicted will be forced to pay restitution mayor lee says the cost to replace that bus is about a million dollars. ama daetz, abc7 news. president obama isn't spending time celebrating, he's back to work and facing upcoming showdown with congressional republicans overtaxes, deficits and

the search is on for a gunman who shot at a deputy in monterey county the deputy was

behind the wheel of her patrol car when somebody shot out the rear window of her car. it happened around 4:30 p.m. yesterday. a piece before flying glass cut the deputy in the back of the neck. she is expected to be fine. the moraga school district changing tactics in defense against former student. she said district officials failed to act when she accused two teachers of abusing her in the 90s. district drew outrage when they responded to the lawsuit by claiming her carelessness or may have played a role in what happened. yesterday the district issued a statement apologizing and decked its attorney to withdraw that line of defense. she accepts the apology. chevron will use corrosion resistant piping.

>> reporter: the northeast had just begun recovering from sandy now this. heavy snowfall on top of the destruction. >> it is snowing this is like in to injury hurricane now blizzard. >> reporter: the storm is dropping wet snow, sleet and rain wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour, falling temperatures adding to the problems for those without heat and electricity. police took to the streets and urged people to take shelter. volunteers are clearing out supplies that have been collected in order to make room for people who might need shelter. new jersey issued mandatory evacuation order for several coastline communities. >> cops are knocking on doors telling us we have to evacuate immediately. they are expecting another surge of water and they want everybody out of the houses. you need to be prepared for a setback.
